PCHR Concludes Training Course on “Gender-Based Violence; Intervention and Protection Mechanisms”

On Thursday, 18 June 2020, the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) concluded a training course on gender-based violence and the mechanisms of intervention and protection with the participation of twenty-five members representing a number of youth groups in Gaza city. PCHR took all the preventive and health safety measures for the trainers and trainees due to the coronavirus pandemic. The 20-hour training course was held over the course of 4 days, from 15 – 18 2020.

The training program tackled various topics commensurate with the needs of the targeted group, with an introduction to general concepts of human rights and women’s rights in particular in addition to gender-based violence, its forms and causes, ways of dealing with it; legal protection and intervention mechanisms for women who are victims of violence; Palestinian legislations and their role in protecting wome; the national intervention system for victims of violence. A team of specialized trainers supervised the training sessions from PCHR and external experts.

At the end of the course, PCHR organized a closing ceremony, where Raji Sourani, PCHR’s Director, stressed that violence against women has had a serious impact on family dynamics in particular and the society in general. He added that this training was part of the PCHR’s work to reduce this phenomenon, raise community awareness and highlight issues of gender-based violence, mechanisms of intervention and legal protection, calling all youth to take their role in providing assistance, intervention and protection to women who are victims of violence by expanding community interaction between PCHR and the youth groups to achieve a cohesive society that denounces all forms of violence.

The participants emphasized that the course was characterized with its rich topics; trainers’ efficiency and various and interactive training methods used in the course, which shed the light on several important topics which enhanced and developed their skills and expanded their knowledge.

At the end of the ceremony, all participants in the training course received certificates.
