Palestinian Shot and Critically Injured by Gunmen in Northern Gaza Strip
On Saturday, 02 May 2020, a Palestinian civilian was critically injured as unknown gunmen shot him in northern Gaza Strip. This attack is part of the state of proliferation of weapons and attacks on the rule of law in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).
According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 08:00 on Saturday, 02 May 2020, unknown gunmen opened fire at businessman, Yahiya Rashad Mustafa Abu Safi (37), from Abed Rabboh area in Jabalia in northern Gaza Strip, after they blocked his vehicle by the Abed Rabboh area intersection. As a result, Abu Safi was shot with live bullets in both of his legs and was transferred to the Indonesian Hospital in Jabalia where his injury was classified as serious due to vein cuts and severe fractures in both legs. At approximately 17:00 on the same day, Abu Safi was referred to Barzilai Medical Center in Israel for medical treatment.
Investigations show that the incident was on grounds of financial disputes between the victim, who is forage dealer, and the gunmen. The police arrived at the scene, opened an investigation and arrested a number of citizens on ground of the incident.
PCHR strongly condemns this attack, which is a flagrant attack on the rule of law in the oPt, and calls upon the competent authorities to take strict measures to combat the increase in unlawful firearm use, especially in the recent period, which caused the killing and injury of a number of Palestinians on grounds of social violence.
