Today, a Palestinian civilian was killed and another was wounded during a family dispute that included shooting in Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip. This incident is part of the proliferation of weapons and assault on the rule of law in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).
According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 08:30 on Monday, 29 August 2016, Mohammed Jamal Ibrahim al-Najjar (24), from Jabalia, arrived dead at the Indonesian Hospital in Jabalia after being hit with a bullet that entered and exited from his neck. Moreover, Ramadan Na’im al-Najjar (25), from Jabalia as well, was wounded with bullets to his feet. This happened when one of their relatives opened fire at them on grounds of an old family dispute.
The Palestinian police arrived at the scene immediately after the incident occurred and opened an investigation. The person suspected of the shooting was arrested.
Major Ayman al-Batniji, Spokesperson of the Police in Gaza, emphasized that the incident occurred on grounds of an old family dispute between the same family members.
PCHR condemns the killing of al-Najjar and is deeply concerned over the increasing number of victims due to using firearms. PCHR calls also upon the competent authorities to take the necessary measures to stop this phenomenon and maintain the civilians’ security and safety.
