Unknown Persons Blow Women’s Beauty Salon in Rafah and Car of The Assistant Comptroller General of the Security Services in Gaza

Field
Update

During
the last couple of days, the Gaza Strip witnessed two incidents but no
casualties were reported. The first incident took place before yesterday when
the car of the Assistant Comptroller General of the security services in the
Gaza Strip was targeted while the second incident took place today in the dawn
when a women’s beauty salon in Rafah was targeted. These two incidents are part
of the security chaos and misuse of weapons plaguing the occupied Palestinian
territories.

According
to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR),
at approximately 04:45 am today, 20 March 2011, a strong explosion took place
in a women’s beauty salon in al-Shabora refugee camp in Rafah, southern the
Gaza Strip. No casualties were reported. Suheila Hussein Abu Athra, 48, who is
the owner of the salon stated to PCHR that unknown persons placed an explosive
device in front of her salon which is located under her house. The device was
blown up and almost totally destroyed the salon. The police arrived at the
scene, checked it and opened investigations into the incident.

Earlier,
at approximately 22:20 on Friday, 18 March 2011, unknown persons blew up a
device which was placed under a car owned by Rajab Hassan al-Baba, 41, who is
the Assistant Comptroller General of the security services in the Gaza Strip.
The car was parking near al-Baba’s house in al-Zeiytoon neighborhood in the
east of Gaza city. Severe damages were caused to the car but no casualties were
reported. The police arrived at the scene and opened investigations into the
incident.

PCHR
strongly condemns these two incidents which are part of the security chaos and
misuse of weapons plaguing the OPT and calls upon the competent authorities to
prosecute perpetrators and bring them to justice.
