Man and His Son Injured by gunfire during Personal Dispute in Gaza

Field Update

On Thursday evening, 06 December 2012, Suheil Fu’ad ‘Ayyad, 50, and
his son Fu’ad, 18, were injured by bullets fired during a dispute which broke
out between them and a person in a house belonging to the ‘Ayad family in Gaza City.
The incident is part of the state of proliferation of weapons and assaults against the
rule of law prevailing in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).

According to investigations conducted by Palestinian Centre for
Human Rights (PCHR) and Fu’ad ‘Ayyad’s testimony, at approximately 22:00 on
Thursday, 06 December 2012, a quarrel broke out between Suheil ‘Ayyad and one
of his acquaintances while
they were in the house of the former’s house in al-Nasser Street in Gaza City.  ‘Ayyad’s sons intervened to defend their
father, but the other person took out a gun and fired by it.  As a result, ‘Ayyad and his son were injured,
and were immediately transported to Shifa Hospital in Gaza where Suheil was
found injured by 2 bullets in the chest and abdomen.  His son Fou’aad was injured by 3 bullets in
the abdomen and left hand.  Medical
sources described their wounds as critical.

The Palestinian police arrived at the scene and arrested the
suspect and opened an investigation into the incident.

PCHR condemns this crime which is part of the state of proliferation of weapons and assaults against the
rule of law prevailing in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).  PCHR calls upon the Attorney
General’s office to investigate
this crime and bring the perpetrators to justice.
