Woman Accidentally Shot Dead in al-Buraij Camp in Central Gaza Strip

On Sunday, a woman was accidently shot dead in her house in al-Buraij Camp in the center of the Gaza Strip. This is part of state of the proliferation of weapons and the assault of the rule of law in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).

According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 20:30 on Sunday, 06 January 2018, (E. Z. Q), from al-Buraij Camp, arrived at al-Aqsa Hospital as a dead body after being hit with a live bullet to the right side of the abdomen from. The bullet mistakenly unleashed from the firearm of her husband while cleaning it.

The Palestinian police said to PCHR’s fieldworker that an investigation was opened into the incident while the person accused of opening fire was detained in addition to referring the victim’s body to the Forensic Department on Monday, 07 January 2019. The police also said that the initial information points out that the incident mistakenly occurred while the victim’s husband was cleaning his firearm.  The investigations are still ongoing according to the legal proceedings.

PCHR notes with concern the increasing number of causalities due to the use and mishandling of weapons and calls upon the competent authorities to take the necessary measures to protect the civilians from the danger of weapons.
