PCHR Concludes Training Course in Women’s Rights/Human Rights in Rafah


On Thursday, 22 March 2018, the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) concluded a training course in the field of women’s rights/human rights in Rafah. The 20-hour course was held in the office of Mujadidoun Society  from 19 to 22 March 2018 and attended by 30 members and volunteers, representing 8 Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) active in Rafah. Moreover, the training course was held in presence of Mr. Issa Saba and Mr. Hashim Thalathini, Members of PCHR’s Board of Directors.

In his concluding speech, Mr. Issa Saba, Member of PCHR’s Board of Directors, emphasized PCHR’s long-term efforts to promote human rights in the Palestinian society. He added that the relation between PCHR and the participants will not end at the end of the course, and should be strengthened afterwards. He also said that PCHR’s doors will always be open to participants in order to benefit from PCHR’s experience regarding what they have learnt.

Abdul Halim Abu Samra, Director of PCHR’s Training Unit, said that ” the course was characterized with the large number of participated organizations that PCHR cooperated with them for the first time, allowing PCHR to reach relatively new categories.” He added that this course was held in order to develop participants’ theoretical knowledge and provide professional skills that can contribute to a real change in the behavior of the society in the field of human rights.

Wafaa Jaber, Director of Mujadidoun Society , thanked PCHR for its continuous efforts in defending the human rights and its effective contribution in disseminating the culture of human rights. She also demanded to continue the coordination and collaboration with PCHR in the future to what serves to make the youngsters benefit more.

The participants  indicated that the course raised their awareness of women’s rights  and was characterized with its rich topics and contributed to raising participants’ awareness of human rights; trainers’ efficiency and various and interactive training methods used in the course.”

The program of the course included an introduction to human rights, the International Bill of Human Rights (the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights); the Convention on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women; Universal Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women; gender issues, the rule of law, independence of judiciary, and Mechanisms of Monitoring and Documenting Human Rights Violations.

A team of PCHR’s trainers supervised the training sessions. The team included Abdul Halim Abu Samra, Director of PCHR’s Training Unit; Majedah Shehadah, a Researcher at PCHR’s Women’s Unit; Sharif Abu Nassar, lawyer at PCHR’s Legal Unit; Mohammed ‘Atallah, a trainer at PCHR; Khalil Shaheen, Director of PCHR’s Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Unit; and Ibtisam Zaqout, Head of Field Work Unit.

At the end of the course, all participants received certificates.
