Field Update

On Wednesday, 31 October 2012, Sabah Younis Madi (48), from Rafah, was injured after a homemade rocket landed on her house.  This incident demonstrates the situation of security chaos and assaults on the rule of law which prevails in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (oPt).

According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 03:00 on Wednesday, 31 October 2012, a homemade rocket landed on a house belonging to Jihad Hamdan Madi, which is located in Kherbat al-'Adas neighborhood, north of Rafah, in the south of the Gaza Strip.  The rocket exploded, wounding Sabah Younis Madi with shrapnel wounds to the head and face.  She was transported to Abu Yousif al-Najjar hospital for medical treatment.  Her wounds were described as moderate.

Police sources informed PCHR fieldworkers that they found shrapnel from the rocket, which landed on the Madi house, wounded Sabah Madi and caused material damage to the house.  They identified it as a homemade rocket.

PCHR strongly condemns this crime which is demonstrative of the situation of security chaos prevailing in oPt, in which the rule of law is repeatedly attacked.  PCHR calls upon the government in Gaza to take the necessary measures to protect the lives of Palestinian civilians and their property.
