Child Killed by a Bullet from an Unidentified Source in Khan Yunis

On Sunday, 12 November 2006, the child Mahmoud Adel Mohammad Abu Taha (6) from the city of Khan Yunis died of wound sustained a day earlier. PCHR's preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 21:30 on Sunday, medical sources in Shifa Hospital in Gaza City announced the death of the child Mahmoud Abu Taha of wounds sustained on Saturday, 11 November 2006. The child was injured at 18:00 by a bullet from an unidentified source that hit him in the head. The incident took place as the child was close to a house of relatives in Ma'an area, east of Khan Yunis. The child was transferred from Naser Hospital in Khan Yunis to Shifa Hospital due to the severity of his injury.

Palestinian Police sources stated that an investigation has been opened in the case to determine the source of the bullet that killed the child.

PCHR is concerned over the continued falling of victims in due to the misuse of weapons. The Centre reiterates the call to the Palestinian National Authority, represented by the Attorney-General, to seriously investigate these crimes and bring the perpetrators to justice.
