Two Persons Injured and a Third One Kidnapped in 3 Separate Attacks in the Gaza Strip

On Tuesday, 10 October 2006, two persons were injured and a third one was kidnapped in 3 separate attacks in the context of family disputes in Jabalya, Beit Hanoun and Khan Yunis.

According to investigations conducted by PCHR:

At approximately 10:45 ON Tuesday, 10 October 2006, a number of gunmen traveling in a civilian car fired at Hisham Mohammed al-Masri, 37, when he was walking near the campus of al-Quds Open University. He was wounded by a number of live bullets to the abdomen and the limbs. The attack came in the context of a family dispute.

On Tuesday morning, 5 masked gunmen traveling in a civilian car kidnapped Khaled Jameel Abu Ghalyoun, 36, from Gaza City, when he was in factory belonging to his father in Beit Hanoun. The kidnappers took Abu Ghalyoun to an unknown destination. Later, they phoned his father and demanded him to pay a ransom (US$ 60,000) in exchange for his release.

At approximately 16:10 on Tuesday, a number of masked gunmen fired at Siham Mohammed Juha, 19, from Gaza City, near Shiekh Zayed town in Beit Lahia. She was wounded by a live bullet to the right foot. The reason of this attacks is not apparent.

PCHR is gravely concerned over the continuation of the use of weapons in personal and family disputes, which is further aggravating the state of security chaos in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. PCHR calls upon the Palestinian National Authority, represented by the Attorney-General, to investigate these attacks and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
