A Palestinian Killed, a Second One Dies from a Previous Wound and 4 Others Injured in Separate Incidents in the Gaza Strip

In the past two days, a Palestinian was killed, a second one died from a previous wound and 4 others, including a child, were injured, in separate incidents caused by the misuse of weapons.

According to investigations conducted by PCHR:

At approximately 16:00 on Monday, 9 October 2006, the body of Mohammed ‘Abdullah Naji, 25, from Deir al-Balah, was brought to Martyr Abu Yousef al-Najjar Hospital in Rafah. Abu Naji, a member of the al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad, was hit by shrapnel throughout the body when a bomb exploded on a training site in al-Mawasi area in the west of Rafah.

At approximately 23:00 on the same day, Rafeeq Yousef Siam, 29, a member of the Palestinian Presidential Guard from al-Shati refugee camp in Gaza City, died from a wound he had sustained on 2 October 2006. Siam had been wounded by a live bullet to the head during clashes between Palestinian security services and members of the Executive Force of the Ministry of Interior.

Earlier, at approximately 01:30 on the same day, ‘Abdul Karim Khuzaiq, 26, from Gaza City, was wounded by a live bullet to the left thigh. Khuzaiq, who is a member of the Executive Force of the Ministry of Interior, was wounded when he was trifling with his pistol.

At approximately 21:30 also on Monday, Nidal Fayeq al-Baba, 17, was wounded by a live bullet to the right thigh, when he was trifling with his gun in Rafah.

At approximately 16:50 on Sunday, 8 October 2006, Mohammed Suhail Kallousa, 13, from Beit Lahia, was wounded by a live bullet to the neck, when he was walking in the center of Jabalya refugee camp. The source of the bullet is unknown, and no incidents were reported in the area.

PCHR is gravely concerned over repeated casualties resulting from the misuse of weapons, which has become a prominent feature of the ongoing security chaos in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. PCHR calls upon the Palestinian National Authority, represented by the Attorney-General, to investigate these incidents and bring those who are found responsible to justice.
