One Member of Hamas Killed in Qaqlilya and Two Others Injured in Gaza and Khan Yunis

On Wednesday morning, 4 October 2006, a member of Hamas was shot dead by unknown armed persons in Habla village, south of Qalqilya. Also on Wednesday morning, a member of the Executive Force of the Ministry of Interior was wounded in an exchange of fire with the Presidential Guard in Gaza City. In the evening, a member of Hamas wounded when unknown persons fired at him in Khan Yunis.   

According to investigations conducted by PCHR, at approximately 04:00 on Wednesday, 4 October 2006, unknown persons shot dead ‘Ali Mohammed Khader ‘Ouda, 38, a member of Hamas, in Habla village, south of Qalqilya. According to eyewitnesses, ‘Ouda was about to drive his car to travel to the mosque for the Dawn Prayer, when a small car without a recitation plate got close to him. Four masked persons were traveling in the small car, and one of them fired at ‘Ouda from a zero range. According to medical sources, ‘Ouda was hit by a live bullet to the heart and a number of other bullets to the left shoulder.

Also at approximately 04:00 on Wednesday, an exchange of fire erupted between members of the Executive Force of the Ministry of Interior and those of the Presidential Guard in Tal al-Hawa neighborhood in the west of Gaza City. As a result, ‘Aahed Mohammed al-Shukri, 27, a member of the Executive Force, was wounded by a live bullet to the back.

At approximately 23:30 on the same day, a number of gunmen traveling in a civilian car fired at a number of members of the Hamas who were in al-Aqstal quarter in Khan Yunis. As a result, Ibrahim Hamdi al-Astal, 22, a member of Hamas, was injured by shrapnel from a live bullet to the right foot.  

PCHR is gravely concerned over the continued misuse of weapons by armed individuals and groups, which constitutes a continuation of the security chaos in the OPT.  PCHR calls upon the Palestinian National Authority, represented by the Attorney General, to investigate these crimes and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
