2 Brothers Injured by Armed Group During a Dispute with a Mosque Imam in Rafah

PCHR's preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 17:00 on Sunday, 16 July 2006, a dispute broke out in Khaled Bin El-Walid in Canada Quarter in Rafah. The dispute was between the Imam of the mosque and preachers from Mansour clan when the former prevented the preachers from giving a sermon in the mosque after the afternoon prayer. At approximately 20:30 the dispute escalated; and an armed group from Islamic Jihad arrived to support the Imam. During the dispute members of the armed group fired their guns, injuring 2 brothers. The injured are Sakher Mansour Mansour (24), who was hit by a bullet in the right leg and shrapnel in the abdomen and left leg, and Ra'ad Mansour Mansour (21), who was hit by a bullet in the face. They were taken to Mohammad Yusuf El-Najjar Hospital, where their condition was listed as moderate.

PCHR is gravely concerned over the continued falling of victims due to misuse of weapons by armed Palestinian groups and individuals, which is part of the security chaos plaguing the Occupied Palestinian Territory, and calls upon the PNA, represented by the Attorney-General, to investigate these incidents and bring the perpetrators to justice.
