The clashes resulted in the death of Arafat Hamdi Doghmosh (26) by bullets in the chest and legs. In addition, 7 others were injured, four of them bystanders or residents of Asqoula area. Two were seriously injured. The injured, taken to Shifa Hospital, are:

-         Ahmad Suliman Obeid (20), moderately injured by bullets in the legs;

-         Adel Issa Doghmosh (30), moderately injured by bullets in the legs;

At approximately 12:30 on Thursday, 13 July 2006, Mohammad Moussa Sheikh Eid (37) was injured by a bullet in the right leg that was fired by a member of the same clan. The incident took place in El-J'neina Quarter in Rafah. He was taken to Mohammad Yousef El-Najjar Hospital in Rafah, where his condition was listed as moderate. It is noted that intra-clan clashes in Sheikh Eid clan have been ongoing for nearly a year, and have thus far led to the death of 3 clan members and the injury of many more from the same clan and other clans.

At approximately 17:00 on Thursday, 13 July 2006, a clash broke out between Shurab and Assouli clans in Khan Yunis. Both sides threw stones at each other. During the confrontation, a gunman fired his pistol, hitting Abdel Sam'i Shaban Shurrab, a 24-year old resident of Khan Yunis and father of 3 children, with a bullet in the abdomen. He was taken to Naser Hospital in very serious condition. He died shortly after arrival at the hospital.

In a development of the clash between Shurrab and Assouli clans, members of the Shurrab clan pursued a car in the Sikka Street in Khan Yunis at approximately 11:00 on Sunday, 16 July 2006. The Shurrab clan accuses the car owner of shooting their kinsman last Thursday. The car owner from Assouli clan got out of the car and fired, hitting Mohammad Ramadan Shurrab (24) with a bullet in the left shoulder. He left his car, which was burned by members of the Shurrab clan. The injured man was taken to Naser Hospital where his condition is listed as moderate.

And at approximately 21:00 on Monday, 10 July 2006, Sa'id Dawuod Mohammad El-Rifi, a 38-year old resident of El-Tuffah Quarter in Gaza City, was killed during an intra-clan clash. He was killed by a bullet to the chest.

PCHR is extremely worried over the continued security chaos that includes the use of arms in personal and clan disputes. The Centre strongly condemns these crimes that are taking place at a critical time for the Palestinian people in light of the Israeli military operation against the Gaza Strip. The Centre calls upon the PNA, represented by the Attorney-General, to investigate these incidents and bring the perpetrators to justice.
