Unknown Masked Persons Attack a Wedding Party in Khuza'a Village near Khan Yunis

On Friday evening, 14 November 2008, unknown masked persons attacked a wedding party in Khuza'a village, east of Khan Yunis. They forced the participants to leave the party after setting fire to stage and breaking chairs. This attack is a part of the state of security chaos and the proliferation and misuse of weapons prevailing in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT).

According to investigations conducted by PCHR, at approximately 20:40 on Friday, 14 November 2008, a number of masked persons stormed the wedding party of Bilal Khalil Abu Rujaila in Khuza'a village, east of Khan Yunis, and attacked the attendants. They also broke some chairs. Other masked gunmen wearing the military uniform set fire to the stage, including audio and photography sets after attacking members of al-Nawras Folklore Band that was celebrating the wedding. They also fired into the air and broke windows of the bridegroom's car, the band's vehicle and a car belonging to one of the guests.

The bridegroom's father, Khalil 'Atwa Abu Rujaila, told PCHR that he saw a number of masked persons tying a bandage on their head that read "Izziddin al-Qassam Brigades." He made contacts with the police and the Internal Security Service in Bani Suhaila village to intervene, but they did not come until the following day.

On Saturday, 15 November 2008, the police arrived at the area and initiated an investigation. Hamad al-Reqeb, spokesman of Hamas in Khan Yunis, denied any connection between Hamas and the aforementioned masked persons.   

PCHR is gravely concerned over this latest attacks which is a part f the state of security chaos and proliferation and misuse of weapons prevailing in the OPT. PCHR calls upon concerned to search for and bring to justice those who are responsible this attack.
