In the past days, 3 activists of the ‘Izziddin al-Qassam Brigades (the armed
wing of Hamas) were killed and 2 others were wounded during training activities
in Khan Yunis town and Gaza City.
According to investigations conducted by PCHR:
At approximately 07:30 on Friday, 21 March 2008, 2 activists of the ‘Izziddin
al-Qassam Brigades were wounded when a bomb exploded during a training activity
in the west of Khan Yunis. They were evacuated to Nasser Hospital in the town,
but one of them, 34-year-old Wa’el Mahmoud Hammouda, died from his wound. He was
hit by shrapnel to the upper part of the body.
At approximately 13:30 on Thursday, 20 March 2008, 2 members of the ‘Izziddin
al-Qassam Brigades were killed and a third one was wounded during a training
activity in the south of Gaza City. The two activists were identifies as: Nour
al-Din ‘Omar Jundiya, 21; and Mohammed al-‘Abed Bannar, 21, both from al-Shoja’eya
neighborhood in the east of Gaza City. The Media Bureau of the ‘Izziddin al-Qassam
Brigades issued two separate statements mourning the three deceased activists.
PCHR is gravely concerned over increasing
casualties resulting from the misuse of weapons. PCHR calls upon concerned
bodies to take necessary measures to ensure their non-recurrence.
