PCHR’s preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 8:00 on
Tuesday, 18 September 2007, Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital announced the death of
Walid Suliman El-Derawi (41) as a result of serious wounds sustained on Monday
when gunmen from his clan shot him. At about 22:00 on Monday, 17 September 2007,
three gunmen in a car fired at El-Derawi as he was sitting near his house in
Nuseirat refugee camp. He was hit by several bullets in the chest and abdomen.
The victim’s brother informed PCHR that the shooting was motivated by a land
dispute with cousins.
The
Executive Force informed PCHR that an investigation was opened in the case; and
that three suspects are being questioned.
PCHR is extremely concerned by the continued falling of victims by the use of
weapons in personal and clan clashes. The Centre reiterates the call to the PNA,
represented by the Attorney-General, to investigate these crimes and prosecute
the perpetrators.
