In the past 3 days, 3 explosions have occurred in Gaza City and Rafah
town. Two of these explosions targeted two cars belonging to activists
of Hams.
According to investigations conducted by PCHR, at approximately 04:30 on
Tuesday, 4 September 2007, an explosive device was detonated in a civilian car
(a white Mitsubishi Magnum) belonging to a member of the Executive Force, Talal
al-Dahshan, near his house in al-Sabra neighborhood in the south of Gaza City.
The car was destroyed and 5 neighboring houses were damaged. Additionally,
2-year-old Bassel Yasser Shuhaiber, was injured in the head.
Earlier on the same day, at approximately 02:10, an explosion occurred at the
entrance of an under-construction apartment building belonging to Khaled Hamdan
Qeshta near al-Awda Square in the center of Rafah. The main door of the
building was destroyed and a number of neighboring houses and shops were
damaged. The Executive Force came to the area and started an investigation.
At approximately 03:40 on Saturday, 1 September 2007, an explosive device was
detonated in a civilian car (a green Fiat Punto) belonging to Firas Tayseer Abu
Eida, a member of Hamas, near his house in al-Sabra neighborhood in the south
of Gaza City. The car was heavily damaged.
PCHR is gravely concerned over these explosions, which are part of the state of
security chaos and proliferation of weapons plaguing the Occupied Palestinian
Territory. PCHR calls upon the Palestinian National Authority, represented by
the Attorney General, to investigate such attacks and bring the perpetrators to
justice.
