PCHR’s preliminary investigation indicates
that at approximately 16:00 on Thursday, 30 August 2007, an argument
between members of El-Majayda clan escalated into an intra-clan clash.
During the clash, a member of the clan who works in the Executive Force
fired several shots. The shot his a handicapped member of the clan,
Ismail Ibrahim El-Majayda (19), who died shortly after arrival to the
hospital. In addition, Sa’id Abd El-Karim El-Majayda (25) suffered a
superficial wound to the chest.
The dead victim’s family burned a car
belonging to the father of the suspected killer. Afterwards, the Executive Force
arrived, and skirmishes broke out between them and members of El-Majayda clan.
Rocks were hurled and shots fired at the Force members. As a result, 3 members
of the Force were injured by shrapnel; and a fourth member was seriously injured
by a rock to the head. The Executive Force arrested the suspected killer.
PCHR is extremely concerned by the
continued falling of victims by the use of weapons in personal and clan clashes.
The Centre reiterates the call to the PNA, represented by the Attorney-General,
to investigate these crimes and prosecute the perpetrators.
