Field Update

Young Man Killed and another Injured in a Clan Clash in Azzoun east of Qalqilya

Morsi Mohammad Abd El-Rahman Dahbour (21) was killed late last night in the town of Azzoun to the east of Qalqilya. Dahbour was killed as a result of an exchange of fire in a clan clash in the town. Another young man was injured in the same incident.

PCHR’s preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 19:00 on Tuesday, 31 July 2007, a clan clash erupted between the clans of Dahbour and Abu Haneyya in the town of Azzoun to the east of Qalqilya. The clash developed from use of sticks and knives to the use of firearms. At approximately 22:30, Morsi Dahbour was injured by a bullet in the chest. He was taken to Al-Aqsa Hospital in Qalqilya. However, efforts to save his life failed; and he was pronounced dead an hour after admission to the hospital. Sources in the hospital stated that Dahbour was injured in the right side of the chest. The cause of injury was a bullet from a hunting rifle. He suffered from severe internal bleeding in the lungs that led to his death.

Eyewitnesses in the town stated that Dahbour was a 3rd year student at Al-Quds Open University. He was injured inside his house.

The clan clash continued till 5:00 on Wednesday, 1 August 2007, and led to the injury of Mohammad Fu’ad Abu Haneyya (25) by a bullet in the chest.

PCHR is concerned over the continued falling of victims in armed personal and clan clashes. The Centre reiterates the call to the Palestinian National Authority, represented by the Attorney-General, to seriously investigate this crime, and to prosecute the perpetrators.
