On Friday morning, 1 June 2007, unknown persons blew up an internet caf้ in Nusairat refugee camp and a restaurant of fast meals in Jabalya refugee camp in the north.

The room was heavily damaged. The motive of the attack is not apparent.

At approximately 04:20 also on Friday, unknown persons detonated an explosive device at the entrance of an internet caf้ belonging to Mo’men Mohammed Dukhan in Nusairat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip. The caf้ was damaged and Ahmed Mohammed Yosef, 21, was injured by shrapnel. According to Dukhan, who was in the caf้ when the explosion occurred, he informed the Palestinian police and an investigation was initiated.

PCHR expresses its utmost concern over repeated attacks on cultural institutions, internet caf้s and cassette shops. PCHR has documented many of such attacks throughout the Gaza Strip since the beginning of this year.

PCHR strongly condemns such attacks, which are part of the state of security chaos and proliferation of weapons prevailing in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. PCHR calls upon the Palestinian National Authority, represented by the Attorney General, to investigate such attacks and bring the perpetrators to justice.
