A Person Killed and Another One Wounded in Armed Clan Disputes

On Tuesday morning, 17 April 2007, a person was shot dead by gunmen in Bethlehem. The attack was provoked by family revenge. In another incident on Monday, a person was wounded in Nusairat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip in a clan dispute.

According to preliminary investigations conducted by PCHR:

At approximately 05:00 on Tuesday, 17 April 2007, a number of gunmen shot dead ‘Abed Mohammed al-Wahesh, 35, near Bilal Ben Rabah Mosque in the north of Bethlehem, when he was in his way to his work. According to initial information available to PCHR, the attack was provoked by family revenge.

At approximately 20:45 on Monday, 16 April 2007, Jawhar Bilal Jawhar, 25, from Nusairat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, was wounded by a gunshot to the right thigh in an armed dispute between the families of Jawhar and al-Jalawi.

PCHR deeply concerned over the increasing number of casualties in armed personal and clan clashes, in the context of the state of security chaos plaguing the OPT. PCHR reiterates its call for the Palestinian National Authority, represented by the Attorney-General, to effectively investigate such crimes and bring the perpetrators to justice.
