Over the past 3 days, PCHR has
documented three attacks on the rule of law as part of the continuing security
chaos in the OPT. The office of the Local Association for Social Services was
burned in El-Maghazi refugee camp; an explosive device was detonated near the
police station of El-Daraj and El-Tuffah quarters in Gaza City, and 2 civilians
were injured by gunfire from unknown sources.
The Center’s preliminary
investigation indicates that at approximately 3:00 on Saturday, 24 November
2007, unknown assailants set fire to the office of the Local Association for
Social Services in El-Maghazi refugee camp in the center of the Gaza Strip. The
area residents put out the fire that burned two rooms and caused extensive
damage to furniture and equipment.
At approximately 00:30 on the
same day, an explosive device planted by unknown assailants exploded near the
police station of of El-Daraj and El-Tuffah quarters in Gaza City, causing
damages to the windows of nearby houses. No injuries were reported. And the
police announced an investigation into the attack.
At approximately 17:00 on
Thursday, 22 November 2007, Khaled Khalil Abed (12) was admitted to Mohammad
Yusef El-Najjar Hospital in Rafah suffering from a moderate bullet injury in the
right thigh. Ibrahim Ismail El-Qadi (43) was admitted to the same hospital
suffering serious injury caused by a bullet to the neck. Both were transferred
to the European Hospital in Khan Yunis. Both were injured separately as they
were walking in Tal El-Sultan Quarter in Rafah. The source of the shooting was
not determined; and the police announced launching an investigation into the
incidents.
PCHR is concerned over the
continued attacks on the rule of law, and calls upon the PNA, represented by the
Attorney-General, to seriously investigate these attacks, to prosecute the
perpetrators, and to take necessary action to prevent their recurrence.
