PCHR’s Director, Raji Sourani, held 3
meetings with international journalists and diplomats on Monday, 12 November
2007, at the Center’s main office in Gaza City.
In the first meeting, Sourani met a
Canadian delegation consisting of Ms. Heather Cruden (head of development
cooperation in the Canadian representative office in Ramallah), The Honorable
Catherine A. Fraser (chief justice of Alberta), and The Honorable Douglas R.
Campell (judge). The meeting discussed the situation of the Palestinian judicial
system and the impact of the June clashes on it. In addition, the meeting
discussed the obstacles facing workers in the legal system.
Sourani also met Dr. Jorge Torres Bereira
(Portugal’s representative to the PA) to discuss the human rights situation in
the Gaza Strip and impact of the international sanctions on the Strip since
January 2006. In addition, the meeting discussed the impact of the Israeli
closure on the Gaza Strip, and its catastrophic effect on the civilian
population.
Finally, Sourani met Mr. Sergio Garcia
Arcos from the Spanish cooperation office to discuss between the Spanish office
and PCHR and Palestinian civil society.
