On Tuesday, 30 October 2007, the
Women’s Unit organized a gender training day for women’s organizations in the
northern Gaza Strip. The training was conducted in PCHR’s branch in Jabalia
refugee camp. Twenty trainees from 14 women’s organizations attended.
PCHR’s Director, Raji Sourani,
opened the training session by welcoming the trainees and pointing to the
Center’s role in disseminating the culture of human rights and women’s rights.
In addition, he commended the cooperation and networking between the Centre and
women’s organizations in the northern Gaza Strip.
The Director of the Women’s
Unit, Mona El-Shawwa, conducted the training and stressed the importance of
gender training, which is part of the Unit’s awareness and training activities.
She also stressed the importance of incorporating gender in the institutional
work.
The training covered the
following topics: defining gender, the difference between gender and sex, the
basic role of gender, and the role distribution between men and women in
Palestinian society.
It is noted that this training
activity is conducted through a gender training project in cooperation with
Swedish organization Kvinna til Kvinna.
