For the 3rd Consecutive
3-year Term:
Sourani Elected Vice-President of
FIDH
PCHR’s Director, Raji Sourani, was elected as
the FIDH Vice-President for the third consecutive term. The elections were
held on the margin of the 36th Congress of the FIDH, held in
Lisbon from 20-25 April 2007. Sourani has been the FIDH Vice-President over
the past six years, and was elected to the post during the 34th
and 35th FIDH Congress sessions in 2001 and 2004.
Sourani’s re-election comes as an appreciation
of the Palestinian human rights movement in general, and PCHR in particular.
FIDH is a non-governmental organization based in
Paris. It is one of the largest international organizations dedicated to
defending human rights worldwide. FIDH was established in 1922, and includes
tens of organizations active throughout the world. There are many Arab human
rights organizations members in FIDH, including PCHR.
It is noted that Sourani is also a member of the
Executive Committee of the International Commission of Jurists, one of the
leading international organizations in the field of law and legal issues. He
was elected to the ICJ Executive Committee in May 2006.
